A health campaign on children's health was held in the last decade of July in the Plovdiv’s Stolipinovo.
The local health mediator Gülezar Sadak had a number of meetings and discussions with the Roma people living in one of the poorest sectors of the neighborhood as well as with parents of children of Roma origin enrolled in the local Lilia kindergarten. Gülezar’s presentation was focused on the topic of children’s health, immunization and pediatric services. Local people asked questions about raising children as well as about various social issues. Since the state covers the health insurance of persons entitled to heating allowances, one of the most popular topics was the topic of heating allowance application campaign that had been recently launched. Because they cannot write and are illiterate, some Roma need help in completing such applications.
In the framework of the health campaign, parents' meetings were held in the Lilia kindergarten, where 100% of the children are of Roma origin. Roma parents have been introduced to some of the principles of healthy eating for children aged 3 to 7. Throughout the campaign, brochures were distributed about healthy children's nutrition. These brochures were provided by the Regional Health Inspection which actively support the health activities of the project.
At the moment Gülezar Sadak works with the local Roma population exclusively on the streets of Stolipinovo because the building of the health center that is to be created under the project is not constructed yet. Currently, the procedures for selecting a contractor for construction activities are in progress and the center is expected to be open at the end of this year.
