2017-01-24

In mid-January, 50 children and parents from “Pobeda” neighbourhood in Burgas participated in vigorous and attractive contests for first-aid giving. The “contest” aimed to test the skills acquired during the 2016’s trainings organized in Burgas Municipality by OFF Media Foundation for the social inclusion of Roma and other vulnerable groups.

In view of the winter season, the contestants handled injuries typical for the season, such as: how to immobilize limbs while waiting for the medical team and specialized transport. Children and adults participated in the practical demonstrations how to act in emergency situations: how to stop extensive haemorrhage, how to pull out stuck tongue, how to act when someone faints, etc.

This contest ended the first-aid trainings organized by OFF Media Foundation. Over 100 trainees participated in the sessions in Burgas, Sredets and Malko Tarnovo.

2017-01-25

48 teachers from Primary Schools “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Montana, “Georgi Benkovski” in Kosharnik neighbourhood and “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Gabrovnitsa participated in a training organized within the frame of ZOV Programme, which took place in Varshets on the 20th and 21st of January 2017.

Focus of the seminar was the specifics of working with children of special educational needs and the choice of suitable teaching approaches. This topic had been selected in result of a research conducted among the teachers on the needs for extracurricular activities.

Trainers Liliya Krasteva from the Centre for Integrated Education and psychologist Aneta Marinova presented methods and good practices for teaching to students of special educational needs. While working in small groups, the participants offered solutions to specific case studies, developed their teamwork skills and established cooperation with all stakeholders.

The training widened the teachers’ knowledge on the interactive teaching methods and development of emotional intelligence.

The trainees discussed the film “My Class, Such a Class!” which presents the educational practices applied in “St. Demar” school in the Saint Denis quarter in Paris, France. The school faces the challenges raised by the cultural diversity of its students living in the outskirts and works for the integration of each child in the community through new methods of teaching and creative activities in music and writing, individual work, encouragement of children to share their opinion and to express their potential. The question asked in the film: “How shall we teach today?” raised a discussion among the participants.
